Adoption Success Stories!

These successes are what we live for, what we hope and pray for, and what we celebrate.  These horses and their stories demonstrate just how amazingly resilient and forgiving these animals are and how blessed we are to have them in our lives.

Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, our two precious senior Arabians, have received the best Christmas present, they have been adopted by a wonderful family!  Freddie and Fannie arrived in July, very thin, dehydrated, and in need of some TLC.  They rebounded beautifully and attracted the attention of a lady who was instantly smitten with their good looks, charm and personality. Now they will get lots of attention and will be a special part of the family again!  It's always a great feeling to be part of helping a formerly neglected horse find a new special person, to be part of that first meeting when the sparks fly! It may sound overly romantic and sappy, but honestly that moment is what makes the expense, work and sometimes the heartbreak all worth it. Those are the moments we work for!   Congratulations to Freddie, Fannie and their new family!

To Pitifully Precious!

Pitiful, aka "Piti-pony," arrived one very cold winter day. This 3 year old mare had spent several weeks at a vet clinic getting stable enough to release to us. She was very thin, had a very poor winter coat, and was in need of some ongoing TLC.  Her early starvation had created such stress for her that she has taken on a self-soothing habit called cribbing, which is very similar to thumb-sucking in humans.  She filled out nicely, though, and soon was able to be turned out 24/7 with her dear friend Dobby.  In the fall of 2007, Pitiful was started under saddle by Katharine Horsey, who described her as "marvelous."  Pitiful has been placed into a great home that will continue her training and make her into the wonderful children's hunter that she is surely destined to be!  Not only that, but Pitiful is now reunited with Dobby!  What a great turnaround for our once-pitiful little girl!

UPDATE:  Pitiful continues to do very well with her new home. She competed at an open show in September and did very well, winning a few classes!  What a great rags-to-riches story for this dynamite little pony!

Ego is everything ;)

As a matter of fact I DO have a big Ego!
ego60reduced.jpg

Ego is a black bay 16h, 16y/o Thoroughbred gelding. He was owner-relinquished from a home where his owner loved him enough to realize that his ability and skill level exceeded her own.  Ego has an "abundant personality" and is one of those horses that you can love and enjoy as long as you are always on your toes since he is always into mischief!   Ego was adopted in July 2007 by a very enthusiastic pair and has moved to the southern part of the state to start a new chapter in his life. Congratulations Jessica, Ronnie, and EGO!

UPDATE:  Ego had a setback in his hip health last year but his family was committed to his rehab and he is back under saddle again. "Go-Go" as Ronnie calls him, is much loved and we're tickled that he has a forever family!

Meet Pete

Pete's first day here...

Pete's feet were so long...
pete008.jpg

Pete (aka "Fabio") is one of two handsome 6 year old palomino Haflinger stallions that we rescued from a neglectful situation and probable sale to a meat buyer.  (His brother Tony, aka "Oliver" was placed immediately!).  Pete had been kept in a tie-stall with insufficient food and water for two years. He had no turnout, no sunshine, and very little socialization. He was very underweight and dehydrated, and had very poor muscle tone. He also had not had his feet trimmed in that time and had grossly overgrown hooves. In spite of all of this, Pete has an unbelievably loving temperment. He physically recovered beautifully over the year he was hear and now just needs to undergo some training.  In August of 2007, our dear sweet Pete was adopted to a lovely young lady who was smitten by his good looks, charm, and personality!  He was equally fascinated by Ashley and so they now have each other. While we will so miss Pete, we wish many years of great times together to both of them and we're glad they found each other!

UPDATE:  We know lots of you follow some of our horses and love updates, so here you go. I spoke with Pete's foster grandpa in March and he's doing awesome!  He is now saddle broke AND did so well they've trained him to drive as well!  I still miss that big boy. He's so special to me and always will be, but I couldn't be happier that he's got a family that loves him as much as I do!

Here's Pete now!!!

Sir Jeffrey Dobbs

Sir Jeffrey Dobbs, aka "Dobby," came to us along with Pitiful in February 2007, underweight and unkempt.  He had a typical ponyish attitude but was not mean, just a bit fearful and unsure. In October, Dobby was adopted by someone we love and respect greatly! Now this little guy will now get the training he needs to become a confident, safe family member!  Congrats to Dobby and his new mom!

And then there's Maude!

Maude is a beautiful older bay mare that we outbid a meat dealer for at a local auction.  We were told that she is a Standardbred that had been raced but she does not have a lip tattoo so we're not sure of her past. She really looks more like a Thoroughbred, tall, elegant, and very dignified. Unfortunately, Maude also has an old injury to her left knee, leaving her knee permanently enlarged and with limited mobility. In August of 2007, Maude was adopted and we couldn't be happier that these two found each other.  We know now that Maude will have the kind of loving forever home that every horse deserves! Congratulations Kay and Maude!

UPDATE:  Maude has crossed the rainbow bridge. The arthritis in her knee progressed to the point where she was reluctant to lie down to sleep and if she did had a very hard time getting back up.  Though she is now gone, we are so glad that we could be part of seeing to it that the last chapter of her life was filled with love, treats, kisses, and a humane end rather than a meat truck.
